Man found floating in East River was murdered: police sources

The man whose body was found floating in the East River this week was murdered, police sources said.

The unidentified man, who appears to be between 40 and 50 years old, was found floating under the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge around 11:15 a.m. Monday, wrapped in a blanket and shoved inside garbage bags fastened with rope and tape, cops said.

During a Tuesday autopsy, the man’s cause of death was found to be linked to blunt force trauma to the face and drowning, according to the sources.

He also suffered blunt force trauma to the legs, mostly in the right shin area, the sources said.

A small vertebra in his upper middle back was also fractured, and his spine was severed — which may have happened post-mortem, though that is unclear, the sources said.

The exact circumstances of the man’s death are unclear, and no arrests had been made by Wednesday morning.
